As Michigan settles into winter, Downtown Grand Rapids comes together for the World of Winter Festival. From January 17th to February 16th, a variety of events, art installations, and winter fun can be found throughout Grand Rapids.
The World of Winter Festival combines art, community, and the region's cold weather to bring family fun to the heart of downtown. Events taking places this year include walking tours, snow yoga, silent discos, ice sculptures, and a Human Hungry Hungry Hippos Tournament. In addition to the typical events and programming, this year's festivities also include the Prismatica installation which will be located at the North Monroe Lot (555 Monroe Ave NW), right across from the Brass Works Building.
Prismatica is an interactive art installation comprised of 25 rotating prisms that are mounted to projectors to reveal every color in the visible spectrum. This exhibit was created by Canadian group, Creos, and has been shown around the world to bring some energy and fun to the urban core.
The festivities kick off on January 17th at the North Monroe Lot with a performance by Dance in the Annex.
The annual Valent-ICE ice sculpture gallery will begin on February 14th, showcasing over 50 ice sculptures throughout Downtown Grand Rapids. Maps of the scultptures' locations and walking tours will be available to ensure you don't miss anything.
