Tom+Chee Coming to CWD’s Bucktown Shopping Center in Grandville, Michigan

September 30, 2014

An emerging restaurant brand that has been featured on ABC’s “Shark Tank” and “The Chew,” the Travel Channel’s “Man v Food Nation” and “Amazing Eats,” and whose Grilled Cheese Donut was named one of the “Best New Sandwiches In America” by NBC’s Today Show, has announced that it will open its first store in West Michigan.

Tom+Chee will join CWD Real Estate Investment’s Bucktown shopping center in Grandville, Michigan, in Spring 2015. The restaurant will occupy 2,200 square feet at the south end-cap of a new 9,000-square-foot building currently under construction next to McDonald’s and in front of Cabela’s on 44th Street SW. Triangle Associates is serving as the project’s general contractor and Integrated Architecture designed the building.

“When we purchased the Bucktown site in 2011 we knew it could be a dominate location. We are leasing space as fast as we construct new buildings,” says CWD managing partner Scott Wierda. “Tom+Chee is a really exciting brand to add to the project. We think it will be wildly popular in this area.”

“At Tom+Chee, we don’t cut corners when it comes to site selection. We are committed to spending a significant amount of time identifying “home run” locations,” says Rachel Caliendo, Franchise Owner of Tom+Chee. “The Grandville location checked all the boxes and we couldn’t be more excited to work with CWD to bring our passion for great, fun food to the area.”

Tom+Chee started selling grilled cheese out of a tent set up next to an ice skating rink in Cincinnati, Ohio, in December 2009. It now has 16 locations and the founders project they will open Tom+Chee shops at the rate of one a week by the end of 2014. Tom+Chee’s offerings include over 25 eclectic grilled cheese sandwiches, three versions of tomato soup daily, and an ongoing variety of specials.

Tom+Chee is the latest of several retailers, including Panda Express and Massage Envy, to announce new locations at Bucktown, a retail center that includes Target and Cabela’s, among others.

This summer, CWD added a dramatic, large-scale water feature to the corner of Ivanrest and 44th Street SW that will include public outdoor patio seating.

“CWD continues to make additional investments in our properties, like the water feature, to create architecturally interesting designs that will enhance the overall customer experience,” says Wierda.
